21 Days of Blogging (Journey of an Emerging Writer)> Day 17 > Heights and spiders.....
Hello readers,
This is Day 17 of my 21 days of blogging. I'll give a quick recap of the blogs or we can say the purpose of blogging. Just for the ones who might have been reading this for the first time, I started blogging 17 days ago aiming a 21 day routine just so I can express about how I feel about any random thing and to get better at expressing my perspective of life. I have told about myself in previous blog and today I'll be telling you about the things I fear the most which are 'Heights and spiders'. Everyone has some fears right, most of the fears are caused due to some past experiences. There are only a few fears that humans are born with. I read it on google that humans are born with only two innate fears: the fear of falling and fear of loud sounds. It said innate fears are hardwired in the human brain and serve to keep us safe from harmful situations. Then comes phobia which is an uncontrollable, irrational, lasting fear of a certain object, situation or activity. To my knowledge, I have not developed any phobia yet. I do fear of spiders and heights a lot but I don't think it can be considered as a phobia as I have kept a certain distance from both of these which made me unaware of the amount of fear in me towards these two. I do not remember where did the fear of height came from because I do not have a memory of me falling from a height or me seeing anyone falling from a height. I was in 9th standard when I got to know that I have a fear of heights. If you guys know about the 2013 Kedarnath tragedy, it was a bad one. When the tragedy happened, I was at my grandfather's house which is around an hour away from Agastyamuni. After the tragedy, there were no roads to travel on and we had to cover that distance on foot, the routes were diverted from villages and some of the routes were connected through temporary bridges. One of the bridges was at a certain height and when I was crossing that bridge I looked down and that's when I realized that I might have altiphobia (fear of heights). From that day till today, I haven't put myself in a situation where I have to look down from a height cause that's really scary. The next one is the funny bit guys. When I was a kid, I used to visit my grandfather a lot cause he was awesome. His place was full of spiders. I mean my grandmother used to scan and clean the whole house before my arrival. You guys won't believe it but there are certain places and I can imagine them right now while typing this where I always find a spider and they are as big as a newborn's face (sorry that you had to compare that). So when I was a kid I used to scan the bathroom and toilets before using them which I still do because that place was full of big spiders. The fear of spiders is the fear which I couldn't overcome and I have witnessed the fear growing in me since I was a kid. I remember we were on a family trip once and a spider which wasn't even alive fell on my shoulder and I cried a lot. Everyone was laughing accept me. Now that I remember it, it was funny.
What I feel is we should try to overcome the fears that doesn't harm our life, obviously I'm not going to try the ones I have but yeah fears like fear of water like fears. You can try start diving in pools where the water level is below your height, maybe it'll help. Now someone will say why don't you try to touch some baby spiders!. Fair point. I'm not scared of baby spiders though. So yeah if you can and want to, you must try to overcome your fears because that is an overwhelming feeling. Not saying from my personal experiences but I've seen people doing so and shouting 'yeah! we did it'. Overall it is normal to have fears guys. Just learn to live with them. And it feels good to share your fears, well not all of them. Talking about the day: it was a normal day that started with the same coffee and music routine, after that did the morning chores, then went to market after studying for a while. Came back for lunch. Went out in the evening for a walk and then came home for dinner. Overall nothing much to talk about from the day. Will come here tomorrow again.
Till next blog, have a great time everyone:)
